Couple discussing the cost of spraying their kitchen

What does spraying a kitchen cost?

What's all this going to cost?

Although most people realise that spraying their kitchen wil save up to 80%  of the cost of replacement, ‘What does spraying a kitchen cost?’ is probably the question that’s at the front of most people’s minds. Well, the simple (if obvious) answer is … it depends.

You don’t need to be Einstein to appreciate that it depends on the size of the kitchen and the number of units, and I’ll give you some specifics on that in a moment.

But it also depends very much on who you choose to spray your kitchen. You’ll find companies that will say they’ll do it in a day and others will take your doors away to a workshop and keep them for three, four, I’ve even heard of ten (!) days.

And watch this video to see the efficient, streamlined process we use and how we can offer all the benefits of doing the job in a day without any of the corner-cutting that some companies engage in. With us you get the best of both worlds.

Checkatrade's guide to the cost of spraying a kitchen

Checkatrade’s estimate of how much spraying a kitchen costs (which you can view here: Spray paint kitchen cabinets cost guide by Checkatrade) is between £600 and £1,000, with the average being £800.

Our prices fall smack into the middle of that range. Some smaller ones might cost £500 and very large ones can obviously cost several thousand (and would take several days to complete), but most ‘normal’ kitchens cost between £600 and £1,000.

You’ll find that most companies give very little (if any) information on pricing on their website. They simply ask you to get in touch for a quote. But we have nothing to hide; while a site visit is essential to give a firm quote, we don’t make our pricing up on the spot. We think you have a right to know in advance roughly what it’s going to cost.

You can estimate the cost of your kitchen by using the following guide

D.I.Y. guide: a rough estimate of how much it costs

Cabinet and cupboard doors vary in size but here you can see the cost for the most common sizes. Anything outside of these, we’ll quote you an individual price. They range from £30 for the small, 9″ doors to £70 for the 21″ ones.

Tall larder/fridge doors ….. £90

The cost of spraying various sizes of kitchen cabinet doors

False drawers …. £10               Regular drawers …. £20             Deep drawers … £40

Built-in appliance facing (e.g. dishwasher/washing machine)  ….. £50

Wall and base sides panels (low)…£30              Side panels (tall) …£70

Rather than charge per foot for cornices and plinths, we quote a lump sum for all of them. For cornices this will be between £50 and £100, for plinths between £25 and £50, depending on length and number of pieces.

If your doors and drawers are real wood, there can be additional costs, depending on on whether you want the grain and knots to show through the paint or you want them completely smooth. Simply spraying them won’t remove the grain, it will always show through. The doors have to be filled which is a very time-consuming process, so there is an extra cost of £25 per door/drawer front. It depends on the finish you want.

The costs above are for the front of the doors and drawers only. If you want the backs spraying as well, we don’t charge double, but there is a surcharge of 50% for each door and drawer.

If you want the handle holes filling (either because you want no handles at all or you want to move or change them) this is time-consuming and has to be done with care or (even when filled) they’ll show up under the paint. Sometimes the holes need filling and sanding three times before they are invisible. The cost of doing this regardless of the number of doors and drawers is a flat fee of £200.

Examples of the cost of spraying a kitchen

The figures given above are a guide (though a pretty good one). The actual price quoted might be slightly higher for a variety of reasons. Some units are non-standard sizes and have to be costed separately.

As a guide, the cost of spraying this small kitchen would be only £430 due to its simple design and small number of units. The cost of the two small plinths is included free of charge. Note the fridge facing.

Cost of spraying a small, compact kitchen under £500
price for an 'average' kitchen

The cost of spraying this compact kitchen would  be just over £700. The fridge (not shown) is free-standing. The two drawers costing £10 are dummies immediately below the hob, hence the lower price.

This high-gloss, red kitchen would also cost just over £700 to spray. There are no plinths or cornices. Note the dishwasher facing.

Another 'average' kitchen spraying price
Cost of spraying a slightly larger than average kitchen

This simple, average-sized white kitchen would cost £840 to spray. There are no plinths or cornices and the fridge is free-standing.

Spraying this kitchen would cost just under a thousand pounds. There are no plinths or cornices included, they’ve been left in a wood grain.

The cost of spraying the drawers is twice the normal rate because of their extra width. Note the beautiful epoxy resin backsplash.

Price for spraying a large kitchen

The cost of spraying this beautiful, bright, white kitchen would be £1,370.

Although the cupboard doors with glass fronts would take considerably longer to spray because of the masking required, we only charge the standard rate. The only real non-standard unit is the thin door next to the oven, which has been costed as £20.

This large kitchen would cost roughly twice the average price at £1,740. It’s unusual in that the cabinets are sprayed in two different colours, grey and white. Most sprayers would charge extra for this as the HPLV equipment needs to be cleaned  and refilled between colours but we don’t.

As in the last example, we charge no extra for the cabinets with glass fronts despite spraying them being extra work.

Thje cost of the plinths is slightly higher than normal because there are seven separate pieces.
